This 18-day journey follows the Mekong River from northern Thailand into Laos then further south into the rarely visited northern reaches of Cambodia.
Our Land of a Million Elephants holiday begins in northern Thailand joining our private cruise for a two day journey on the Mekong River to the ancient capital of Luang Prabang. We continue by rail to Vang Vieng set amongst spectacular limestone cast mountains. Further south is Vientiane the capital city of Laos and gateway to the southern reaches of the Mekong River.
The discoveries are rich including the ruins of Wat Phou (once the most northern outpost of the Khmer empire) and the awe inspiring Khone falls set amongst four thousand islands where the Mekong descends into a series of spectacular cataracts. Here we have reached the border with Cambodia and continue to Siem Reap by road, a rare opportunity to see the northern countryside.

Our favorite things on this journey - two days cruising down the Mekong river in northern Lao. Luang Prabang and its temples and monasteries. By rail to Vang Vieng and Vientiane then beyond to the Khone falls. The furthest outposts of the Khmer Empire at Wat Phou. Crossing the border into Cambodia then by road to Siem Reap.
